Our Story

Over 40 years of nurturing young learners through play, community, and exploration.

How It All Began

Millersburg Preschool and Alumni School was first established in 1984 following the closing of the local Millersburg child care facility. Several families in the community had relied on the center one or two mornings a week to give their children socialization opportunities and help prepare them for school.

These families felt it was important to expose their children to a group setting and social exchanges with other children before kindergarten. When the facility closed, they joined together to form Millersburg Preschool, Inc. to provide a high-quality, early school experience for their children.

The programs available today grew from those original ideals, and the cooperative spirit that founded the school still drives everything we do.

Our Journey

1984

Millersburg Preschool, Inc. founded by a group of dedicated families after the local childcare center closed.

2004

Cedar Creek Club launched after summer Alumni Schoolers chose Cedar Creek as their topic of study and didn't want their explorations to end.

Today

Over 40 years strong, Millersburg Preschool continues to serve families with play-based preschool, Alumni School, and Cedar Creek Club programs.

Our Philosophy

We believe that children learn best through play, connection, and a caring community that supports the whole family.

Family Cooperative

Our unique co-op model provides an opportunity for both children and families to experience and belong to a lasting, caring learning community. Long-lasting friendships are forged as families work together, and caregivers gain deeper understanding of their children by observing them in the classroom.

Play-Based Curriculum

Play is at the heart of everything we do. It is the single most important learning experience we can provide young children. Through play, children construct knowledge, develop social-emotional skills, build executive function, and pursue their natural curiosity and desire to learn.

Learning Centers

Our classroom is organized into specialized areas for play and learning. These centers allow children to work in small, self-chosen groups at individual levels, providing individualized learning that meets a wide variety of interests and developmental stages.

Emergent Curriculum

Our curriculum is organized around projects and topics selected based on child interest. Topics may be explored individually or simultaneously, ranging from one week to several months. Content from many disciplines is integrated through these projects to help children make connections across areas of learning.

Cedar Creek Club

Cedar Creek Club began in 2004 when summer Alumni Schoolers selected Cedar Creek as their topic of study. The exploration was so exciting that the children weren't ready to stop when summer ended.

Today, Creek Club is open to all Millersburg Preschool and Alumni School families. During the school year, it meets the first Sunday afternoon of each month. In summer, meetings happen one morning a week.

Creek Club is designed for any family member of a Millersburg Preschool family. As the original members requested: you are never too old for Creek Club.
